The fitness industry is filled with before and after pictures, we have many world class and unbelievable before and after pictures in ourselves but like we always quick to point out, they never tell anywhere near the true story, this is Claire's story.
When i first met my husband 13 yrs ago i was a size 10, i was fit, healthy and active and ate well. I was really happy with my body, but 6yr ago i fell pregnant with my first child. I was so paranoid i would harm my baby that i stopped exercising and put on 5st. After i had my baby i went back to the gym and tried every diet going to try and lose the weight that i had gained but i only managed to lose 2st. I then fell pregnant with my second child a few years later and piled even more weight on and went up to a size 18, or at least that's when i started cutting the labels out of my clothes. I was so unhappy with my weight and body and in myself that i said to my husband, i need professional help because nothing i do is helping or working. My husband looked on the internet and found Ian who had amazing reviews as a personal trainer and the before and after pictures are amazing. I plucked up the courage to walk into his gym and asked Ian if he could help me. Ian explained in great detail from the start that no diet was ever going to work and what we had to do was change everything about the way i was thinking about weight loss and diets, shift my mindset away from the diet culture which is failing everybody. I agreed to join Ian's Personal Training and it was very different from what i thought it would be, we worked out with weights and only did a little cardio. Ian also worked out how many calories i should be eating, and looking at what he said every time i tried dieting it was no where near enough compared to what i was now advised, i couldn't get my head around how i could eat more than every other time id tried dieting and i would lose weight, there was no"diet sheets" involved and Ian never mentioned dieting once, other than to tell me we don't diet. But immediately it started to work, the weight started falling off, my body shape started to change and in such a short time i actually started to see muscles appearing, and i now looked toned. My fitness levels are the best they have ever been and my strength in both my lower body and upper body is amazing, i actually amaze myself, Ive lost 6st now and got no loose skin. Ive been going to Ian's gym for 2 years and i consider Ian as my friend now. He's gave me my life and confidence back and I'll always be forever grateful for what hes done for myself and my family. My friends are so happy to have their friend back, the confident happy me, instead of the one who used to sit in the corner miserable. I'm a working mam of 2, a wife, and I've achieved so much because of Ian, and if i can do it - you can too. Claire x x x

What does the word "diet" mean to the average person looking to lose weight in 2017? And why when we have more gyms, more personal trainers and more free access to information are people continuing to become more over weight and more unhealthy. The word diet to your average person now means restrict, restrict massively, not allowed, cant have, good food bad food, inflict suffering and so much more nonsense, none of which is actually true. There is no foods you cant have when putting yourself on any diet, yes you have cut down on what you are eating now, see how i said cut down, cut back a little, not remove, sort of goes against all the nonsense ya keep reading on social media, even more frightening is the fact that a lot of this rubbish is written by the very people that people that you are going to for help and paying them for that help - personal trainers. Personal trainers selling detox kits, telling you that you must detox before starting any diet, that you must reset your insulin by removing all carbohydrates - yes this rubbish is actually true and a commercial gym near me actually sell this methodology, all of which is utter rubbish, how anybody can call themselves a fitness professional whilst knowing that they are lying to the people that are actually paying them money to help them, its a disgrace and it needs addressing, we need to stop been quiet about this nonsense and call it like it is, its BS. We have people that are massively over weight, petrified to go any where near a gym and when they do your going to take them and tell them that they have to completely eat at the other end of the spectrum from where they are now and you think that's going to work for them ? Here is some advice for ya for free, make sense of where they are now, work with where they are now, help them cut back a little with what they eating now, not radically overhaul anything whilst making it completely unsustainable for them, after all, these people are coming to you for help, help with problems that's going to take time to put right, stop trying to force quick fixes on people, and certainly stop fleecing them of money on detox kits, i know and you probably know, at least you should know, its utter BS. Here in the UK today we get to vote in our general election, to decide who's gonna run our country for the next few years, and to be honest I cant ever recall this much passion about politics been shown. Now this has a lot to do with social media, in fact its all to do with social media, but its still great to see people with passion and different views all debating, some arguing and others falling out – yeah I know that's not so good, but I guess they just weren't meant to be friends anyway, but still none the less the passion shown has been refreshing for politics.
Now what has this to do with health and fitness I hear you ask ? Well actually its got a lot to do with your health and fitness, because just like many other parts of the world the UK has a massive obesity problem, growing year on year, peoples health getting worse and showing no signs of slowing down. Now ive been obese so I know what it takes to change your whole life around, and what it takes is passion, passion to want something different just like people are showing about politics right now, I think we all want something different but our different is not the same for all of us. Just like our stories are all different our journeys will all be different, different paths will take us different places but hopefully at the end of the journey we will have reached the same outcome, not to be obese any more. Its vital to understand this now with the power of social media and all the before and after pictures not to mention the always half naked insta selfies with insanely ripped guy or girl that this is not a reflection of our own story or journey and we should never compare what we are doing with what anybody else is doing, this just adds insane amount of pressure that is not needed or required. We need to take the passion shown about politics and use it in our own lives, creating a road map of where we want to be and use it as fuel, fuel to drive change, just like with politics, if only people were as passionate about their health as they have shown to be about politics, but then I guess it takes less work to sit behind a keyboard than it does get up and start making real change. This is something that those that come asking about personal training are made 100% clear on, you can have the best coach in the world but unless your prepared to get up and do the work then nothing is gonna change. Remember regardless of the outcome of any election – we are still in control of our own futures, and it doesn't have to be one of been over weight or obese, if you cant do this on your own, ask for help from those that have been there and done it. iG |
